I decided to employ a trainer because I was dealing with a lot of stress from school. Being away from home made it very hard to have a healthy lifestyle. I found myself eating a lot of junk food and I didn’t know how to stop. I really wanted a personal trainer to help with my long term goal which was to lose the body fat I had put on whilst being at school.
I chose JMTraining because it was obvious how passionate the whole team are about health and fitness. Their approach was refreshingly positive and they were able to understand my situation and help me believe in myself again.
Madison is an amazing motivator and a very professional personal trainer. She has taught me a lot about training and nutrition, encouraging and pushing me to be better every week! I have achieved amazing results by teaching me how to fuel and move my body the right way. I am so thankful for Madison and the whole team for helping me throughout this process. Working out and eating better was the biggest challenge for me. I have found a new stronger, fitter and healthier me through this process! I have more energy and I feel and look so much better than I did before I started this journey.
The nutritional guidance had the biggest impact on me. Madison showed me new ways to approach eating healthy and all the alternatives there can be with food. My mentality has completely changed and I don’t even want to eat junk food anymore. I really love eating healthy now and I enjoy my training to be fit. I want to do this for the rest of my life.
I knew I wanted to work out because I wanted a healthy motivation to get up in the morning. I craved something that would make me feel better, both mentally and physically. My mental health had taken quite the beating in the past while and I knew that this would be the optimal way to help me feel better on a whole.
I started working out at the Fitness Junction and with JMTraining because I had heard great things about them. I also don’t drive and they are located downtown which is walking distance from my home, which was integral for me.
My first class was PiYO with Jana. She is an incredible instructor as she’s so motivational and helpful to adjust for your body/needs. Needless to say, I was hooked. Now I train with JMTraining 5 days a week! One of those days I spend with my personal trainer, Kyle. He is such a fantastic trainer. Not only has Kyle helped improve and tone my body – and boy, has he! – but he’s also helped, whether intentional or not, with my mental health. I cannot sing him enough praises.
I’ve been getting personal training with him for under 6 months, yet I am seeing some fantastic results. My body is in much better shape, my skin is glowing, and I look and feel better, inside and out. I can even flex my muscles and see them now, something I could not do before. I am impressed by how toned my back has become. I have a bigger, stronger booty, my endurance and stamina have increased, as well as my balance. I no longer mind having sore muscles; it just means that I worked hard. You gotta earn the burn!
I decided to start working with Greg and JM Training because I was suffering from acute piriformis syndrome and my naturopath, Dr. Graeme Rowell, recommended I start a fitness program to strengthen my core and glutes. I had joined fitness clubs in the past with a general (self-directed) membership but never had the motivation to maintain a regular fitness routine, so I knew that I would need one-on-one coaching to help me prevent further pain or injury and to keep me accountable.
I started training with Greg White in December 2017 and was impressed by his knowledge of my condition and confidence in designing a program that would ease me into developing strength and reducing my pain. Fast forward to today and my piriformis pain is almost completely gone! It occasionally flares up if I bend or strain in awkward positions, but I know how to compensate by engaging my core or changing my position. My overall body weight has gone down too thanks to Greg’s nutrition coaching. I sleep more consistently, have better energy and my digestion is improved (I suffer far less with bloating and discomfort after meals).
Why would I recommend JMTraining? It’s not only because every trainer has in-depth knowledge of human anatomy including the musculoskeletal system, nutrition and body chemistry. It’s also because they listen, observe, and pay such close attention to every movement and exercise that their clients perform. Their experience with how the body moves gives them this very unique ability to give specific direction and customize postures, movements, and poses, which maximizes your results. I’ve learned so much about how recruiting weaker, underutilized muscles while reducing activity from overused muscles is the key to reducing pain and increasing strength.
Plus every time I walk into the studio it’s clear that every trainer there cares about me as a client and has empathy and compassion for my unique circumstances. JMTraining is an amazing interdependent team that means no matter who you see, you will get the same great quality of coaching, direction, and support in classes and one-on-one training. I would absolutely recommend JMTraining to friends and family and do at every opportunity that arises!
At the time I started working with JM Training I was pretty active, but I didn’t feel I had the right program in place to get the results I wanted. I was also facing a shoulder injury that was limiting my ability in the gym. The pain from my injury affected my mobility and made it quite difficult to perform a variety of exercises. I had undergone months of physiotherapy with little improvement, and due to the nature of my injury, I thought I may instead benefit from personal training. I came across JM Training and liked their holistic approach and that they had experience working with clients with injuries.
So far in my journey with JM Training I have lost weight, built significant lean muscle, and improved my overall energy level. I have also partially rehabilitated the injury I started with. When I first started training, I could barely complete a single push-up due to my shoulder injury. With Greg’s guidance I can now complete multiple sets pain free. The further I progress, the stronger I feel and find I am able to perform exercises and lift weight I once never thought possible.
Through my work with Greg, I have learned how much both diet and physical activity go hand in hand to create a healthy lifestyle. It is nearly impossible to meet your goals without focusing on both aspects. I have also learned that in order to create a long term healthy lifestyle it is important to make subtle changes and short term achievable goals rather than drastic changes that often lead to disappointment and failure.
JM Training provides an intimate, more family like environment that I imagine you don’t really get at larger clubs. All of the trainers are friendly and supportive and, although I have worked primarily with Greg, I feel like I have a whole team in my corner supporting me. I would certainly recommend JM Training’s services to family and friends.
Everyone’s situation is different, but I am sure that many can relate to my situation. After an car accident in December 2014, I managed to get back to a schedule and be satisfied with my physical fitness level. After a second car accident in January 2018, a concussion to go with it and a hectic work schedule, being food conscious was not on the agenda nor was pushing myself beyond two exercises a week.
Later in 2018 my sister wanted to get fit and found JM Training, where she found her personal trainer. After seeing her results I decided to work with Madison seemed to be the right fit. She was also a horseback rider was able to understand my needs for riding fitness.
Since starting, I have seen a difference in my weight, shape and size! It comes at somewhat of a joyful surprise when you have to start wearing a belt again after a couple of years of shopping and wearing clothes that have stretch and disguise. All of the changes I’ve seen physically and mentally are thanks to the commitment to making more conscious food decisions, tracking food and partaking in more regular exercise. But most of all, the changes are thanks to the un-ending, un-wavering positive encouragement and commitment from Madison to helping me with my new path!
I think that a big contributing factor to the success I have worked towards and enjoyed so far with Madison and the other JM Trainers within classes, is due to the specialized certifications, attention to detail and a passion to help people with making changes and achieving their goals. When a trainer spends the time and effort to have the knowledge to lead, teach and help others is huge; to have confidence in yourself because they have the confidence themselves. To be in a smaller working group rather than a larger more commercial operation also makes a big difference, you are an individual not a number.
I look forward to continued success under Madison’s tutelage and within the JM Training and Fitness Junction Family. I dare anyone who has the desire to make changes and see changes in themselves to join us.
I found myself travelling a lot for work, eating out and barely having time to shower never mind cooking a nutritious meal. It hadn’t even been a year of living this stagnant lifestyle of work, eat, sleep, repeat, with NO physical activity. I had gained over 50lbs in 9 months and weighed the heaviest I ever have at over 230lbs. I took a picture in front of the mirror in my condo and vowed to myself to do whatever I had to do to make healthy changes to my lifestyle
In May 2018, I found JM Training and began my journey training with Greg. I was looking for more then JUST a trainer at a big box gym to push me through workouts. Instead I found Greg and a community of like-minded individuals at The Fitness Junction that I could be part of and feel comfortable with. JM training and the entire team go above and beyond what a typical Personal Trainer does. They are lifestyle coaches that genuinely care and want to help their clients achieve their goals through a balanced lifestyle that is maintainable.
Greg and JM Training have helped me to change my life in a multitude of ways throughout the last 8 months. The positive words of motivation, patience, and compassion have helped me to see that I AM worth taking the time to take care of. Not only have I shed over 60lb, my back pain is nearly non-existent now, I have dramatically noticed improvements in my mood, motivation, energy levels, strength and flexibility, as well as self confidence.
Living a healthy active lifestyle is the way you live, not just a series of actions you complete to check off a list. Training at the gym isn’t something you do because you think you should or that’s what everyone else does. It is something you do because that is the life you choose to lead. This whole experience has actually inspired me to change my career path completely and become a trainer so I can help change other people’s lives like Greg did for me.
We started working out with Jana because we stopped getting results on our own. We wanted to train together, and because JMTraining offers partner training, we decided to give them a try. Within the first few months of training with Jana we had dropped two clothing sizes and we were motivated to keep pushing to see what we could achieve moving forward.
We think one of the most important factors in achieving what we have is Jana’s holistic approach – she tailors not only our workout plans to our goals, but our food plans as well. Anytime we’ve hit a plateau or faced an obstacle, she switches things up to ensure we continue to progress forward. Jana has been with us every step of the way as we work towards becoming stronger and healthier and we wouldn’t be where we are today without her. Best money we’ve ever spent! We would and have recommended her in a heartbeat.
I first decided to join the gym and do Personal Training because I was going through menopause and noticed that with my usual level of activity (fairly high) and eating (fairly good), I was gaining a pound a year. I tipped the scales at 142lbs, which is 10lbs heavier than I ever wanted to be.
My boyfriend was a member of the gym Jana was working out of at the time and he had observed her interaction with her clientele and was also impressed by the range in age and abilities in the clients who were making use of her services. I had never been to a gym before but was always very athletic growing up. I don’t think I ever would have gone to the gym if had it not been for my boyfriend who saw that Jana could be a catalyst for change in my life.
At first, it was harder than I thought it would be, just in the sense of having to learn proper technique and isolate the right muscles. But Jana is sensitive to what I am capable of and knows my limitations. But what I love is that she doesn’t let that stop her from pushing me to see my true potential. She is very good at adjusting on the fly if I happen to have had a crappy sleep, have lots of energy or really can’t stomach a certain exercise. She is adaptable and her great sense of humour makes the hour that much easier to push through.
My body is changing rapidly at this phase in my life but I refused to let it take over who I am or define me. Things can be tough at this age but with the right tools and a bit of direction, I feel like I am back in control. The changes I managed definitely took commitment, but change like this is always within reach if you have the drive and someone like Jana by your side.
I originally met Jana after a few women in my office had been training with her and were getting impressive results. I’d turned forty the previous year, and although my diet and exercise habits were 75% solid, I couldn’t say the same of my physique. I wasn’t exactly overweight – just sick of having arm flaps, and struggling to shake those extra few pounds. The only problem was that I was terrified of The Gym. But after months of gentle prodding from my friend Marci, something in me snapped and I finally took the plunge.
We started training that same week, starting from scratch. Jana taught me about form, proper equipment use, breathing, and what I needed in my diet to fuel my workouts. As each week elapsed, she gradually increased the resistance, and I gradually got stronger. Somewhere between eating fewer bananas and doing more squats, I’d suddenly lost 15 pounds and needed a belt to hold up my pants! And what were those weird, hard textures on my back? Upon closer inspection, I was shocked. Were those…muscles? I’d heard of such things, and had even seen hints of some in my legs, but never in my upper body.
Fast forward to July 2016. I’ve been training with Jana for ten months now, and feel more motivated than ever! My body fat is down from 34% to 18.5%, I’ve lost inches everywhere, and see steady results each week.
Overall I’ve really loved this whole experience but one of the main things that training with Jana has given me is confidence. When I look in the mirror, I don’t see a woman who’s over the hill – I see a go-getter who’s found her mountain!
Jana has been there every step of the way, even off-hours. If she’s training another client and sees me doing something incorrectly, she takes a moment to help me fix my form. And she never makes me feel stupid about it. She knows my challenges and what I want to get out the program, and customizes her approach and analogies accordingly. She also has loads of yummy recipes!
Long story short, I highly recommend her. She’s dedicated, she’s compassionate, and she’s only the slightest bit sadistic – three of the best qualities in a personal trainer.
I met Jana 8 years ago and always knew I wanted to train with her. It wasn’t until after the birth of my son that I finally took the plunge. Since training with Jana and being a part of the amazing community at Fitness Junction I have seen immense changes both physically and mentally.
I’ve always struggled with keeping myself motivated when I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted and Jana has kept me going stronger than ever for the last 7 months. She is kind, compassionate, and truly cares about her client’s health. She understands that it’s not just about work in the gym but about the food you fuel your body with, and the JM Training team has a great resource of healthy recipes up on their blog for all their clients. I can say with great certainty this is the best and most fit I have ever felt in my entire life and this is after a baby! I couldn’t recommend JM Training more to anyone looking for guidance on their health journey and someone to walk alongside them.
So about a year ago, I decided that something had to change. I was tired! Tired of stomach pain, tired of worrying what food would make me feel sick (it was like Russian roulette). Tired of feeling like I was in a fog. Tired of my hair randomly falling out. I knew what I had to do I was just scared to start. But I did! With the help of my naturopath, I did a blood test to see what my food sensitivities are. Not a big surprise: dairy was number 1, followed by soy! Now came the hard part…taking them out. In the meantime, I decided, “let’s do this, all or nothing”, and thought a little exercise won’t hurt.
Enter Jana Flore Mills (personal trainer)!! So for 10 weeks, I changed my food, taking out dairy and soy to see what issues they were causing. I will just say, dairy is out forever and soy is very limited as it was causing headaches. So with Jana kicking my butt, me eating a lot differently and a few supplements from Kelsey, things started to change. Now it’s a year later and I feel good (my insides are so quiet); I feel strong and clear headed! I still get tired though, I am a mom! But there’s no going back. This is definitely the new and improved me!
I decided to get help from JM Training because I had been unhappy with the way I looked and felt for a long time. I didn’t like the changes I was noticing in my body and decided that it was time to do something about it. I had very limited gym experience and initially chose JM Training based on their convenient location. During our first meeting, Jana immediately made me feel welcome and less intimidated by being so friendly and encouraging. We discussed my goals and I began training with her in August of 2017.
Since that time, I have been amazed at the physical differences in my body. Jana’s workouts are always challenging but her confidence in my ability to succeed allows me to believe as well. The nutritional guidance that Jana offers has been invaluable. She carefully looks through my daily meals and offers feedback on where to make changes. I feel stronger and happier and credit Jana’s holistic approach to healthy living with so many positive changes. I would absolutely recommend JM Training to anyone and everyone!
I sought out JM Training in early December of 2013, four months after the birth of my son. I’d had a difficult pregnancy, involving (out of necessity) a very sedentary period, and in my boredom and concern for my child I had turned to my last remaining pregnancy-friendly vice: an awful lot of food. My habits did not improve after my son was born, and by then I had become accustomed to not moving. By the time I joined the gym I was on the lower end of ‘obese’ (according to both BMI and body fat percentage), and I knew I wanted to be an example to my son of healthy living, and I certainly wasn’t going to do that as a sedentary obese woman. And so I found Jana.
I had considered trying to get into shape all by myself, but the truth is that, after a lifetime of having been naturally slender with little effort, I didn’t know where to start with diet or exercise. I was afraid that I couldn’t drag myself into the gym day after day without some outside motivation, and what’s more motivating than having someone counting on you to show up? Additionally, I wanted my workouts and diet to be efficient and effective, and I knew I needed to not be too proud to ask for help.
Jana was the perfect trainer: compassionate but exacting, cheerful but intense, and supportive every step of the way. She was there with words of encouragement, daily feedback on nutrition, and a great deal of expertise that resulted in a program that was tailored to my individual needs.
Now I can say that I’m more than satisfied with my experience; I’m thrilled! On the first day of training, I could barely do a modified plank for 10 seconds, and now I can properly plank with the best of them. I can carry around my son without getting pains in my lower back, I can lug around heavy things, and I have better energy and better sleep than I have since my own childhood. Most importantly, I have a plan (expertly put together by Jana) to continue my progress into a fit and healthy lifestyle for years to come. I can’t recommend JM Training enough. With absolutely no hyperbole, I can say that it has changed my life, and it can change yours too.
When I first joined the gym, reached out to JM training (Jana Mathews) because I believed she would be a great fit for what I wanted to achieve. At the time I had just failed the Ontario PREP test (required for police constables), due to my lack of cardio strength. This made me realize I needed to be more educated on what I needed to do to get my body in the best possible shape to pass the PREP test.
In the gym, I was completely comfortable with Jana taking the lead and customizing my workout to reflect all the aspects of the PREP test. Her teaching and coaching was above and beyond what I expected.
As a person, I live an active healthy life style. Before I met Jana, I was not educated about health and fitness and I was a bit timid at the gym. I’ve learned that change takes time and hard work. When I started training with Jana, My PREP time was 2 minutes and 49 seconds (pass is 2.38). The lowest time I have clocked in thus far is 2 minutes and 20 seconds!!! Needless to say, I passed!!! My future goal is 2.15. I also struggled with the cardio portion of the test before I met Jana. The beep test (20 meter shuttle run) is also a component of the PREP test. I was only getting to level 4 and I need to get to level 7 to pass. With all my cardio training I managed to get to level 7 and passed!!!
My scheduled training time with Jana was my favourite times of the week! Having that pattern and workouts set in place, kept my goals easy to reach.
As long as you continue to push through and celebrate the small successes, you will do great!
Having been very active and involved with sports throughout high school, I never had an issue with my weight. However, in the past 3 years I gained 50-60lbs for many reasons but mainly because I was eating all the wrong foods and becoming increasingly sedentary. I barely recognized myself when I looked in the mirror and a big part of me was desperate to return to my normal self. I didn’t have a great deal of experience working out in a gym, so when I joined in December of 2011, I chose to seek out help in achieving my goals. This is where I met Jana.
Since that first day, Jana has helped me lose 80lbs, over 20% body fat and I’m the fittest I have ever been. I can see definition in my arms, legs and abs and I feel stronger than ever before. People stop me in the gym and tell me they cant believe how different I look and that they are inspired by what I have accomplished. I definitely attribute my results to the guidance and motivation Jana provided, but also to a whole lot of hard work in our functional workouts. Our sessions were always intense, creative and this meant there was never a measurement day where I didn’t see great results.
It’s hard to explain in words how much this whole experience has really changed my life. But I’d say the biggest thing for me is that my mentality has changed drastically. Jana got me to see that exercise is important but paying attention to my food choices was key. I was surprised at the flexibility in her meal plans and now understand that eating healthy doesn’t mean dieting. After dropping all the weight I was terrified I would put it back on. But now I know I can maintain this lifestyle in the long term if I continue using the tools I’ve been given. Funny enough, I am now seriously considering a career change into the fitness and nutrition field. I can’t imagine my life without exercise and I plan to push myself harder and further in the future.
After spending many months feeling sorry for myself because my husband had died, I decided to change my way of thinking and improve what was wrong in my life. Like a lot of 51 year old women, I was not happy with my appearance and was physically weak. After joining the gym, I started training with Jana.
After almost 7 months of training with Jana, I have seen a great transformation in myself. I look more toned and gone are the flabby arms I had when I first start training. My poor posture, back and knee pains are a thing of the past. I feel more energetic and most of all stronger, which is what I wanted to accomplish. But maybe most importantly Jana helped me develop confidence in myself again.
I know that I want to continue challenging myself and of course I have to thank my trainer who has given me the knowledge and encouragement to realize my potential. Jana is truly a professional Personal Trainer and I attribute the changes in my life to her. Without her support and encouragement I couldn’t have achieved the results I see today. I would strongly recommend her to anyone looking to lead a healthier life and achieve great results.
I am 80 years old and have been retired 23 years. Since university graduation I have lived a relatively sedentary life. Physical activity did not exist for me. As a sports klutz, I chose not to embarrass myself in the company of the more physically gifted. Over the years I had become much shorter of breath, my weight had gradually grown to 228lbs and my blood pressure was increasing towards the danger zone of hypertension. Due to a lack balance and the slowing of my reaction times, I had fallen twice on city side walks. In so many ways I was deteriorating. In 2009 I joined a gym and I recognized the potential to turn my life around.
Having worked with several trainers in the past, I know what makes a good one. Jana Mathews is my most recent trainer and the best of all my trainers. We have been working together for a year now and she is not only a great trainer, but an exceptional athlete and coach. She is dynamic, enthusiastic, pays great attention to detail and her ambition for herself motivates similar ambitions in me. She is kind, cares deeply and wants very much that I succeed.
And now, life is so very good. I am pleased when people tell me I don’t look my 80 years. I have lost more than 20lbs, my blood pressure has drastically reduced and I see myself standing taller and stronger, with more energy to enjoy the company of my family and friends. I have not fallen again as special routines have improved my reaction time and core strength. So now my family doctor refuses to renew my Handicapped Parking Permit. Jana has coached me back into my once vibrant life, so I worry much less about my future. She insists I am an inspiration to those around me in the gym, which is more than I ever expected to be. I am proud to take some of the credit for my obvious gains but I know I could not have achieved these gains without the dedicated guidance of my trainer, Jana.
After feeling down about my appearance for awhile, I decided to join the gym so I could get in shape and lose weight. I always felt insecure working in the gym on my own and this made for the easiest excuse to not stick with a workout program. This is what pushed me to start training with Jana and I’m so glad I did because I can honestly say I love the 1 on 1 sessions! She was always supportive and never down on me even when I struggled to grasp a new move or take a nutritional change on board. Her positive attitude motivated me to push harder than I ever thought I could, to accomplish things I am very proud of today. Having a trainer pushed me to stay on track and realize that I could do this, I just needed a little help.
I now have a schedule of when I am going to go to the gym and actually look forward to it! My eating has changed significantly, I have more energy and suffer much less from digestive issues. The nutritional guidance has made a huge impact on me and my family and pay much more attention to what we are eating. I am still a work in progress, but keeping a food journal keeps me accountable and the meal plans Jana put together for me help keep me on track. I feel better about myself and the aches and pains I felt in the past have subsided greatly due to the programs Jana prescribed.
This whole experience has made me realize a lot about myself and what I am capable of. I couldn’t have dropped the body fat that I have without Jana’s guidance and I am happy to say I am rediscovering clothes I had put away in boxes years ago thinking I would never be able to fit into them again! I now know that I can carry on with my workouts and ensure I am healthy into my retirement. If I had to do it over, I wouldn’t change a thing!
After retiring from work and falling out of the habit of exercising on a regular, I started putting on weight and feeling really lousy. I had gained over 20 pounds and went up 2 pant sizes. My diet was poor, I had little energy and none of my clothes fit or looked good on me any more. I decided enough was enough so I joined a gym. I started training with Jana because I didn’t have much experience in the gym and wanted to make sure the time and hard work I put in would pay off.
Since that first day I am half way to my goal weight, my muscles are toning up and I’m starting to feel healthy again. I know I couldn’t have gotten this far without Jana’s help. She made me feel comfortable, was never lacking in enthusiasm and truly believed in me. I was surprised with what I was physically capable of, especially given the past injuries I was still suffering from. The mobility and strength in my injured shoulder improved over time, reducing the pain I once felt. I was able to overhaul my diet with the meal plans and delicious recipes Jana provided. It took me awhile to finally make the changes but now that I have, I enjoy eating healthy and see the difference the nutrition side makes in losing weight. I would highly recommend Jana to anyone I know. She is a great trainer and it shows through the passion she shares with her clients.
My experience with Jon Mills from JM Training, was by far, inspirational, FUN, educational, challenging, and an experience in life I will always remember. Right off the bat Jon took the time to really dive deep into why I wanted to take on a 90 Day Challenge. To me, this wasn’t about winning only; this was about my health, my self-worth, my life. Jon realized this right away, and knew what I was trying to achieve, I needed a lifestyle change, something that was sustainable, healthy, and enjoyable part of my daily routine. He assured me that together we could make the changes I needed in my life by making changes in all the areas in my life that needed to be. We started with nutrition and straight away I knew I was in for something different. Eating became a real pleasure again for me!!!
When it came to training, Jon took the time to find what inspired me, what I wanted to do, and implemented it in to our daily training. He found key elements that inspired me to push myself to the limits, and go home every day, waiting for the next day to get back into it. Keeping things fresh, there was never a dull moment. I couldn’t wait to find out what was in store each week as he kept my body in constant change, never the same workouts week after week…..there was always a new element bringing me forward, and making me want to do more each time, he found a way to fuel an idea in my head, and turn it into an addiction. As the weight came off, and new muscle was born, it became a passion.
I think one of the finest parts of training with Jon was how personal it became for him as well as me, I wasn’t just a client. My success day after day, week after week excited him as much as it did me. The level of detail and attentiveness bar none was top notch. There was never a time where I felt discouraged or not wanting to eat proper, and make it into the gym. His coaching in and out of the gym was always on point. I never felt a need to stray from my goals, only push harder to achieve them.
Jon has taught me more than just eating properly and getting into shape, he taught me to believe, to find the courage I didn’t even know I had, to be confident in everything I did. He didn’t just help me achieve my fitness goals, he’s helped me achieve much more than I ever expected.
Jon Mills inspired me more than he, nor I ever thought possible, and still……continues to do so.
I first met Jon from JM Training during one of my regular workouts at a local gym. I typically go to the gym 3-4 times a week which at times feels more of a job than a passion. My workouts became stagnate and boring with no goals thus achieving very little. When I sat down with Jon I was impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and sense of humor. I began training with Jon in March of 2014.
Right from our first session I was impressed with Jon’s approach. We immediately established my goals and the route we needed to take to get me there. Even though I’ve been working out all my life, Jon was quick to point out several issues with my lifting technique. Jon also took the time to explain the importance of lifting with correct form. The workouts were perfectly tapered and customized around my fitness level. The workouts became very challenging and at times required Jon’s motivation and enthusiasm to get me through. Throughout my workouts Jon kept me focused and on track with our overall plan. Along with the workouts Jon provided me with nutritional information and a daily food intake plan which was necessary for me to reach my goals.
Jon was successful in reducing my body fat to single digits while increasing and or maintaining my muscle mass. Years of improper lifting created a chronic shoulder pain causing me great discomfort (impingement of the supraspinatus) while working out. While working out with Jon I was finally lifting pain free. Jon made this possible by giving me specific exercises targeting the areas of concern and by paying close attention to my form while lifting.
Whatever your personal goals are I highly recommend Jon’s (JM Training) services to get you there.
I have been training with Jon from JM Training for the past couple of years. I have lost 30+ pounds, dropping 14% body fat and changed my whole lifestyle around. I feel a lot better about myself and I can now tie my shoes without holding my breath and I can run without pain.
I work in a high stress job and training gave me a new outlook. I handle stress much better now and I sleep better as too. I have to say I have been more positive since I started training and I find myself more productive, having more energy to do things. I feel much younger than my years.
Changing my diet was the most challenging part of what Jon helped me to do but now I read labels and I consider what I eat before I indulge. Jon has taught me that getting your nutrition on track is 60-70% of your success. This has been good advice.
I have had an issue with tendinitis since my youth and training has been a challenge at times. Jon worked around it, wisely holding me back at times even when I wanted to push forward. My tendinitis gives me little trouble now and I am abundantly stronger than I have ever been.
Jon has been patient with me throughout the time I have been training with him and he has been fair in all of our dealings. It has been a sacrifice both with time and money but well worth it. I can’t think of anyone I would recommend more highly than Jon to change your life for the better. Jon has given me the tools to live a much healthier and longer life.
Thank you Jon for putting up with me :-).
I started to train with Jon about 12 weeks ago because I lacked the motivation to get back into shape. I had wanted to change my lifestyle habits for a long time and my wife decided to surprise me with some personal training sessions. She heard about Jon from a mutual friend and decided that he would be a great match for me.My goals starting out with Jon were to get lean, to be flexible, build my core and upper body strength. Some months back my doctor told me that I was hyperglycemic. Until I meant Jon everyday at different times my blood sugar would dip and I would be very irritable, weak and felt generally unwell and lethargic. At the time I met Jon, my diet consisted of foods that contained of a lot of sugar which made my symptoms worse. Jon helped overhaul my diet and gave me a manageable food plan to fit in with my work and home life. I was amazed that in only three days I could feel the difference the diet had on my body and energy levels. I felt dramatically stronger, more energetic and I could tell my hyperglycemia was finally under control.
Thanks to the training and diet I am following, even my smallest clothes are way too big for me. My weight has dropped from 190 lbs to 155 lbs. When I look at my body I see a more muscular frame and my wife comments on how visible my abs are. I get compliments from friends and family on how fit and healthy I am looking. I am more confident about my appearance and it feels great!
My job consists of long hours of manual labour and heavy lifting so the training programs that Jon has designed for me place specific emphasis on posture and core strength, which has made a world of difference in my daily life. My body now craves the weight training and cardio programs that Jon has me on! I enjoy working out and look forward to it each and every week!
Jon is not a trainer who sits on the sidelines, he is there to motivate you and his passion for his work is easy to see. A lot has changed in my life since meeting Jon and I would recommend him to anyone who wants a positive, healthy outlook on life. Jon is an honest, hard working, positive role model and anybody would be very lucky to train with him.
I trained with Jon for about three and a half years at Fitness First – up until the time he left London to move to Canada. I had trained on my own for many years and was in reasonable shape but I never seemed to get the benefits from training I thought I should. Jon was great. On our first session he did a full body assessment and we discussed my objectives. He also advised me on my diet. It was pretty clear to me that Jon was very knowledgeable about muscle function, posture, core strength and all the other elements which go into weight training (but which we never think about when we train on our own).
As a trainer, I have nothing but praise for Jon. He is patient but will push you just enough to reach your limit. He always had a program devised in advance for each session, whether it was a session focusing on a particular muscle group or was a “full body blitz”. The sessions were difficult but not to the point where I’d feel discouraged. I always felt like I had achieved something after a session, felt better at the end than I had at the start and the sessions were genuinely fun! In addition to Jon being very knowledgeable about training and rigorous in his instruction, he is a genuinely nice guy and great to be around. We always had a laugh and that makes such a difference to the enjoyment of a session.I could go on.
I could say that Jon was recognized as the best of the 10-12 personal trainers at the gym. I could say that Jon always practised what he preached. When Jon trained on his own, he trained at least twice as hard as anyone else in the gym. But suffice it to say that I think Jon is a great trainer – very knowledgeable, very focused, sufficiently demanding and lots of fun.
So, how did I do? Well, I think we achieved my objectives. Within a few months my definition and muscle tone had improved noticeably, I reduced my body fat by 7%, my strength was up and my endurance increased. After that it was a matter of continuing our training to keep challenging my body and maintaining those improvements.
I am a 23 year old student athlete, studying Real Estate and Accounting at the University of Guelph in a 4 year Bachelor of Commerce Degree. I am a Ontario boxing champion and have won gold at the Ontario Golden Gloves 3 times in 3 different weight classes. I won the Ringside World Championship 2010 and gold at the Ontario Provincials once and silver twice. In 2012 I was ranked number two in my weight class in Canada and was omitted to the National Team B.
I started training with Jon Mills in October 2011 and have continued to train with him into 2013, incorporating his training programs throughout this time. I like the fact that all workouts with Jon are very dynamic and have a large focus on explosiveness, which is key in my sport. There is definitely a noticeable difference between what I work on with Jon and lifting free weights in the gym.
One of the main things I’ve noticed from Jon’s training is that the strength and speed in my legs has increased allowing me to move in and out much quicker while trading punches with my opponents. Also, my lateral movements have become much smoother making my style more versatile and myself more elusive. Jon’s techniques differ from other trainers largely in that he brings an entire training system which is practiced by very few because of the advanced complexity of the movements. Jon’s training program brings such a degree of functional strength through use of kettlebells and other non conventional equipment which has a much higher rate of turn over when it comes to the specifics of my sport.
My first and foremost goal is to win the 2013 Ontario Provincials which is set for February 28th. From there I will then focus on winning gold at Nationals in October 2013 and for the long term the Pan American Games located in Toronto in 2015. I plan to continue training with Jon in order to reach a level of flexibility and explosiveness unknown to my previous training regimes while continuing to improve technically, to become the best all round fighter of my ability.
At the time that I decided to hire a trainer I was quite set in my ways, was not achieving results or at a good level of fitness. I also had a big birthday looming and wanted to feel fit and toned for that new decade.
I chose Jon because on my first impression he was both approachable and knowledgeable. I began personal training with just a couple of months in mind but ended up loving it so much that we trained twice a week for about 5 months.
My goal was to tone up and get proper advice and training on how to get a fitter and leaner physique that suited my body shape. I was aware that I can easily bulk up and had done so in the past and was keen to avoid such mistakes again. I have since gone on to do a triathlon and am due to do the “Tough mudder” later this year. Thanks to Jon I really enjoy staying fit and am always looking for new challenges.
I would suggest Jon to anyone looking for good advice and an interesting training session. He will always throw in new challenge or routine to keep things interesting and it’s clear he is very passionate about the craft of personal training. I would say that both women and men, young and old, fit and unfit would benefit from Jon’s expertise as he is able to adapt his style and find ways to benefit all types of clients in all their goals.
I decided to use Jon’s services after doing some group training with another trainer with mixed results. I wanted to try one to one personal training sessions and felt like I needed a more personalized program. I had seen Jon training himself and was really impressed by his physique and work ethic. He had the physique that I aspired to have and it seemed like he was the right trainer for me.
I trained with Jon twice a week and followed the programs he set for me at least 3 times a week. It took 6 months for him to transform my body from around 25% to 11% body fat. My physique totally changed as I made the progression from an out of shape 36 year old into a lean, muscular and fit 37 year old.
I was impressed by Jon’s coaching style and his attention to detail both in our workouts and in the programs he prescribed for me. Each session was designed to challenge my body in different ways and I really enjoyed using a number of different pieces of gym equipment including kettlebells, power bags and free weights. Jon’s “on the clock” workouts mean that every minute with him counts to burning calories, fat and building lean muscle. Although you wouldn’t know it to look at him, Jon’s a lover of food and is happy to share his nutritional advice and to come up with tasty and healthy recipes.
It’s been just over a year since he left for Canada but I continue to train and eat a healthy diet using his principles. The best testimonial I can give Jon is that working with him has inspired me to sign up for a Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training commencing in March 2013. I choose to keep this body for a long time and want to inspire others to make positive changes in their lives!
I lived next door to a personal trainer so I really had no excuses left. My weight was tipping dangerously close to an unbelievable amount, seventy pounds heavier than I weighed in my early thirties. However, my major sorrow was that I could not find the joy I felt throughout my thirties; dancing, playing tennis and taking exercise (aerobic) classes. I take salsa classes but I no longer enjoyed dancing. So almost five months ago I approached Jon. I needed to re-ignite the exercise and healthy food habits that I felt I had ten plus years ago.
Jon’s enthusiasm was infectious and the fact that we could natter about “English things’ helped. The plan was to focus on weight loss and exercise with my main goal being that my habits for exercise and eating good food (no sugar, fewer carbs and little or no alcohol) get ingrained. Five months in I have lost over 19 inches in total and 23 pounds, I can do several push ups (not to mention the weights I can now lift), and I love spin classes. Did I mention that I don’t eat as if I am on a diet? I now really see my diet as a way of eating forever. Thanks to Jon’s persistence, guidance and support I am mostly successful at planning and preparing my food for the week in advance.
My preference was to put the habit forming above weight loss and Jon’s philosophy totally fit with this. Whenever I was worried about my gammy knee or some other pain, Jon changed his approach and found an exercise that worked. Jon knows his stuff plus he is fun. Having someone to send your daily food intake and exercise to, is an incredible luxury and worth every penny.
My thought is that some celebrity is going to discover Jon soon, so people should hire him now while they can still afford him!
I started training with Jon at my gym after I had signed up to run in the London Marathon. I had always been a keen runner but I needed to improve my fitness and particularly strength levels to help me complete the race.
Firstly Jon assessed both my current training plan and diet and he was able to show me the places where I was going wrong. He provided me with a new training plan working around the long runs that I needed to do and mixing in more cross training. One of the most beneficial ideas that Jon introduce me to was interval training across several different pieces of gym equipment which helped to improve both my stamina and speed.
In our one on one sessions we mainly used kettlebells, which were new to me and I really enjoyed them. Jon kept the sessions fresh and challenging each week and was also able to show me how to train with conventional weights properly as this was something I had always shied away from for fear of injury.
I completed the marathon actually feeling pretty good and went on to run 4 more. I trained with Jon for just over a year and found him to be a very good motivator with a gentle approach. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to train with kettle bells or conventional weights and looking for a dynamic workout.
I met Jon after a frustrating swimming practice in the pool at the Virgin Active gym back in 2004. I had been taking lessons from a swim coach who didn’t seem to be able to adapt his coaching style to my specific needs. When I was younger I had to have my right leg amputated due to cancer so as you can imagine swimming and training in general had many different challenges for me.
After to speaking with Jon it seemed to me that he shared my frustration with my swim coach. I was impressed with his knowledge of swimming technique and really liked his ideas of adapting a coaching style in order for me to be more efficient in the water instead of trying to teach me a “textbook style.” I was also interested in his idea of developing a gym based strength training and cardio program which would be designed to make me stronger in the water and also help with the everyday challenges I faced. After finishing my sessions with the swim coach I started to train with Jon twice weekly, doing a session in the pool and a weight based session in the gym.
Jon was a great choice, as through his guidance and training he gave me the tools and inspiration I needed. As a swimmer his history of swim training was fantastic and my stroke improved significantly. My fitness and strength also increased dramatically and I really started to enjoy my own work outs and my swimming practices again too.
Training with Jon isn’t just about the one to one session and doesn’t start and stop in the gym or in the pool. He provides a full service approach, he monitors your body fat, weight, checks your measurements every month and also gives detailed dietary advice and guidance.
I am confident to say that training with Jon is a life changing experience and I can’t recommend him highly enough!
I started training with Jon after a couple of years of excessive lifestyle choices. I used to go to the gym as a typical bloke doing upper body weights and a bit of running. Jon introduced me to functional training and the beastly bells. I had never experienced this level of burn, conditioning, cardio and strength mixed into one.
From that point I was hooked and the results came quickly. Jon was always there paying close attention to form and pushing that extra bit of sweat out of me. Jon’s approach was practical both in terms of training and diet. He adapts his style and methods to fit into your lifestyle, what you do, where you work and socialize. I feel that this approach helps to make the overall plan workable and sustainable. There are no short cuts but it helps when you have Jon as a trainer helping you along the way.
He became a friend as well as my coach but is a stickler for form. That has come handy as I have used the fundamentals of his training in my progression to the CrossFit workouts I do today. I wish him all the best in his new venture in Canada and would recommend him to anyone.
I decided to employ a personal trainer because I was frustrated with not making progress with my workouts, plus I was always getting injured. I had stopped working out for 7 months until I went to JMTraining. I was impressed with the facility and most of all the knowledge that everyone at JMT has to offer and I knew this was the best place for me. I felt very comfortable training at the Fitness Junction studio. The atmosphere there is awesome, it’s unlike any other gym I’ve been to.
The experience I had doing Personal Training with Madison has impacted my life in a huge way. The workouts were amazing and the routine created was catered to exactly what my needs were. The nutritional guidance and support was massive for me as I had no idea how much of a difference a proper diet makes in the results you can achieve. The knowledge I gained about nutrition alone made it worth it but the biggest part was learning proper technique and form. I went from being injured constantly to never being injured and I can’t tell you how much of a change that was. I am much stronger and leaner than I was, I have a new sense of drive and discipline, more energy, better posture and a great attitude when it comes to knowing what my body needs. I’m proud of the work I put in and I loved every second of my training.
When I came to JMTraining I was done, I had basically quit. This was my last shot and I’m so glad I took it. Now with the tools and knowledge I have been given I am back on top and know that I will definitely stay there. This is something I will use for the rest of my life. All around amazing experience. I would highly recommend Madison and JMTraining to anyone looking to change their life!
I walk every day and want to avoid falling. In the latest program that Gabe designed, we have been working on our core and upper body strength and balance. Gabe is a stickler for form and works hard to ensure that we are performing the exercises correctly and using the right muscles. We like all the trainers at JMT. They are
so friendly and knowledgeable and they make us feel at home at the Fitness Junction studio. We would recommend Gabe and the JMT team to anyone else who is looking for a trainer to help them
improve their strength, fitness and standard of life.
